Doula Services

Chauna L. Poley, your Doula, will provide your growing family with the emotional support, physical assistance and information you need to have a less complicated, safe and overall rewarding birth experience.  This Doula support can enhance the quality of medical care you receive from your Doctor, and it is well documented that Doula support enhances the well being of both mothers and babies.

What is a Doula?

Before the Birth

After an initial phone consultation or discussion at the office, your Doula can set up a time with you to discuss the course of your pregnancy to date, and any previous experiences that may be germane or helpful.  Depending on your specific choices regarding your birth plan, you may review breathing excercises, relaxation techniques, comfort measures and positioning during labor.  During this time you will also review common obstetrical procedures and explore your options for your optimal birth.

During Labor

Once a contract is decided between you and your Doula, she is on call for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Once she arrives after you begin labor, she is by your side throughout the entire labor, offering emotional support, non-medical comfort measures and helping you to find the relaxation excercises that work best.  Your Doula's knowledge of the birth process and experiences can help to facilitate communication between you, your partner and the medical care providers.

After the Birth

Your Doula will be available from the time of birth and thereafter for newborn questions, breastfeeding support and other common situations that a new mother may face, to help ease the adjustment.  She will visit with you as needed, and review the birth and answer any questions you may have.  Your Doula can also refer you to local resources as needed.
