Doula Services
What is a Doula? Before the Birth After an initial phone consultation or discussion at the office, your Doula can set up a time with you to discuss the course of your pregnancy to date, and any previous experiences that may be germane or helpful. Depending on your specific choices regarding your birth plan, you may review breathing excercises, relaxation techniques, comfort measures and positioning during labor. During this time you will also review common obstetrical procedures and explore your options for your optimal birth. During Labor Once a contract is decided between you and your Doula, she is on call for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once she arrives after you begin labor, she is by your side throughout the entire labor, offering emotional support, non-medical comfort measures and helping you to find the relaxation excercises that work best. Your Doula's knowledge of the birth process and experiences can help to facilitate communication between you, your partner and the medical care providers.
